Former Chinese Olympic Athlete Harassed For Withdrawing From the CCP Print E-mail
Quit the CCP Movement - CCP's repression

By WEN LONG, The Epoch Times, Apr 20, 2005-

Huang Xiaomin, a coach for the South Korean National Swim Team and former Chinese Olympic athlete, declared her withdrawal from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) on December 12, 2004. As a result, the CCP started harassing her family members in China. Has the CCP, which claims that its members can freely withdraw at any time, really given people such freedom? What did the CCP do after Ms. Huang withdrew from the party? What follows, is an interview of Ms. Huang by The Epoch Times reporter Wen Long.

Reporter: After you published your withdrawal from the CCP, how did the Chinese public react?

Coach Huang: It is said that the news of my withdrawal from the CCP quickly spread around China after I published the statement. When my sister-in-law traveled to southern China for business, some people asked her, “Did your sister-in-law withdraw from the party?” One athlete said that my withdrawal statement caused a great stir in the entire society of swimmers.......

Reporter: Freedom of belief is a basic human right. You should have the freedom to choose whether you join or withdraw from any political party. However, in the present China, making such a decision publicly requires a lot of courage. Did your decision influence your family members in China?

Huang: After I published the statement, the CCP sent people to my sister to get information about my situation. He said that what I did may influence my sister’s future career. He even directly threatened my sister, “You have to realize that the CCP dares to do anything!” Afterwards, they further threatened my family, “Huang Xiaomin can never return to China. Neither can her mother go abroad to visit relatives.” They also stressed that I am under investigation by China’s State Security Ministry.

Reporter: What is your opinion of the CCP’s reaction? Do you regret withdrawing from the CCP?

Huang: What the CCP did really surprised me. I never expected that the CCP was so mean! I feel that joining such a party is like boarding a pirate ship. One is only permitted to get on the ship, but cannot get off it. The CCP claims that people can freely withdraw from it. However, when I withdrew my membership, I faced so many threats. Doesn’t it expose its evil and violent nature? What good is this kind of organization? Why shouldn’t I withdraw from it as soon as possible? You see, the number of people withdrawing from the CCP is nearly one million. Doesn’t the figure prove that Chinese people don’t want to be associated with it? It is the public’s opinion. All people want to withdraw from the CCP. No one wants to live under its shadow of threat and fear any longer.

Huang Xiaomin’s profile:

Huang Xiaomin is a former member of the Chinese National Swimming Team. She won a silver medal for breaststroke at the Olympic Games in 1988. During 1986 to 1990, she won three gold medals in the breaststroke event at the Asian Games. She has 11 gold medals from world swimming competitions. She was called No.1 of the “Five Golden Flowers” and “Queen of the Breaststroke” in the swimming field in China. In 1987, she obtained the “Fly Dragon Prize,” and the title of “an Asian top ten athlete.” She is now coaching the South Korean National Swim Team.
