About The Global Service Center for Quitting the Chinese Communist Party ( GSCQccp)Today a powerful movement is sweeping China. You may not read about it in the news or see it on television, but it has the potential to dramatically alter the course of China’s future, with significant ramifications not only for that country, but also for the global geopolitical landscape.
This movement is called Tuidang, and it involves millions of Chinese who have renounced and their affiliations with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
The Tuidang movement began in late 2004 with the publication of a book-length editorial series titled “Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party” by The Epoch Times newspaper (see it online at http://ninecommentaries.com). The “Nine Commentaries” details the Communist Party’s history of repression, and concludes that China will not be free for as long as the Party continues to rule.
However, the movement does not bear the usual markings of a democracy movement: its leaders are not prominent intellectuals drawing inspiration from Kant and Jefferson, it is not driven by students, and it is unlikely to produce a goddess of democracy akin to that which appeared in Tiananmen Square in 1989.
Instead, this movement for change is deeply spiritual, peaceful, and unmistakably Chinese. And though it remains rarely known in the west, it is likely the most diverse and largest dissident movement to emerge in China in over two decades.
The Tuidang movement’s participants have varied backgrounds, experiences, and motivations for denouncing the Communist Party. Some of them cite the Communist Party’s destruction of traditional Chinese culture as their reason for defecting. Many recall their suffering under Great Leap Forward, the Cultural Revolution, or the suppression of Falun Gong. And where some people were victims of the Communist Party’s numerous violent campaigns, others were the perpetrators of human rights violations, now seeking absolution and forgiveness for their complicity.
We invite you to explore this website for answers to frequently asked questions about the Tuidang movement, messages of support from elected officials in the West, and the centerpiece, our blog, which consists largely in excerpts of statements from Chinese who have disavowed the Communist Party.
We hope you find this information valuable in understanding the complex and often misunderstood dynamics of domestic Chinese politics and society. The information on this website—particularly the running translations of renunciation statements posted on our blog—cannot be found anywhere.
Now that you know about it, we welcome you to spread the word: send a message of support to the millions of Chinese citizens who are participating in this non-violent movement to restore a culture of peace, respect for human rights, and freedom in China.
