On the morning of January 21, 2006, Charles Lee finally returned home and reunited with his family and friends in San Francisco. Below is Charles Lee's resignation statement.

During three years of imprisonment by the evil Chinese Communist Party (CCP), I suffered tremendous physical and mental harm. One of the methods they used to torture and persecute me was to conduct sustained brainwashing sessions using the evil CCP's notions and lies. While I kept resisting the persecution with my strong will and belief, I was unavoidably exposed to the CCP's contamination to a certain degree.

This was only the recent episode of my experience with the evil CCP's persecution that started long times ago. When I was nine years old, "anti-revolutionary" posters showed up in my parents' work place, saying "Down with Mao Zedong." No culprit was found, but somehow I was scapegoated and labelled a "younger anti-revolutionary criminal." Were it not for the cosmic change that ended the Culture Revolution, my life might have been completely ruined.

In elementary school, I was enlisted, without a conscious understanding, in the Youth Pioneers, which was then called the Little Red Guards. When I graduated from middle school, my teacher, out of his good will, persuaded me to join the Communist Youth League so that I would have a better future in the communist-controlled society.

I have long detested and despised the evil CCP. Although I joined the Youth Pioneers and Youth League passively and in reality I am no longer a member of these organizations, I still want make a solemn declaration: I quit completely all organizations affiliated with the CCP. This is to express my will to sever all connections with the evil CCP, and to mark the beginning of my thorough cleansing of the contamination by the CCP's evil culture.
