By Dr. Zhang Tianliang , in Washington, DC at a gathering in support of former State Security Agent Li Fengzhi's withdrawal from the CCP, Mar 22, 2009 -

Dear friends and passers-by, we gather here today to support former Chinese State Security Ministry agent Li Fengzhi in using his real name to withdraw from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). We are here to show our respect for his courage, and to urge other State Security staff to come clean and stop assisting the evil.

On August 19, 1991, we remember the dramatic changes that happened in the Soviet Union. At that time, the hardliners of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU), led by the then-Vice President Gennady Yanayev, put the pro-reform CPSU Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev under house arrest. The CPSU was ready to suppress the common people's resistance with tanks.

At that critical juncture, Boris Yeltsin, President of the Russian Federation, defied the hardliners. He made a speech from the turret of a tank, calling on the military to refrain from firing on the people. Some KGB agents had their weapons aimed at Yeltsin at that very moment from nearby locations. Had these agents pulled the trigger, Russia's fate would have been completely different.

The Communist hardliners originally planned to occupy the Parliament at 3 a.m. on August 20, 1991. The plan was aborted after the Alpha Group, an elite unit of the KGB, refused to follow orders. The Alpha Group was directly under the leadership of the KGB's Ninth Bureau. In the defeat of the August Coup, the consciences of KGB agents played an important role.

“KGB” is the Russian abbreviation of the Committee for State Security. Similarly, Mr. Li Fengzhi worked for the Chinese Ministry of State Security. There are people with a clear conscience in the Chinese Ministry of State Security, just as in the KGB. At some critical moment in the future, they can as well play an important role to change the fate of China.

China has a State Security Ministry and a Public Security Ministry. The Public Security Ministry should be in charge of domestic safety, while the State Security Ministry should handle threats from other nations. But in realty, the Public Security Ministry is used to suppress the Chinese people, while the State Security Ministry uses the most advanced surveillance technology to monitor the people.

Here we can see the power of truth. State Security agents have easier access than the average Chinese citizen to news from non-Chinese sources. Since they monitor public opinion, they are also in touch with what the Chinese people think. As a result, they have a more comprehensive understanding of the Communist Party's evil nature. They are also more sympathetic towards the people's suffering.

Mr. Li's experience proves this point. From his statement, we can see how the truth can change people. The noble characters of seemingly ordinary people, such as Falun Gong practitioners and attorney Mr. Gao Zhisheng, are indeed magnetic. I believe more and more agents from the Public Security Ministry and State Security Ministry will be changed. This also signals the pending collapse of the most important infrastructure supporting the CCP regime.

In 2006, the Chinese government banned "The Lives of Others," a German movie that won the 2007 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The movie depicted a former Eastern German agent who was moved by the writer on whom he was in charge of spying. He defied East Germany's Communist Party to protect the writer. Mr. Li's story is the Chinese version of "The Lives of Others."

The Chinese Communist Party is depending on its surveillance system to survive. This is a sign of its coming doom. It shows that the CCP regards the people as its enemy. The CCP uses the most despicable means to maintain its regime. Every small sign of defiance is treated as the greatest national security threat. When it forces its security agents to spy on its people, perhaps it did not imagine the possibility of the security agents being moved by the people they are spying on. When it established a "State Security" ministry, perhaps it did not think that the same force could also lead to the CCP's demise.

We thank all those who have distributed the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party and encouraged people to withdraw from the CCP. We also thank those who have withdrawn from the CCP. Although each person's power is as small as a drop of water, added together, they form great ocean waves. Every participant is doing his or her part to change the course of history.

Thank you!
